T he Community Health Enrichment Empowerment Resource Services Program is a pilot program and was created to provide our youth (8-17 years of age) with the necessary tools to make well informed decisions when confronted with situations that may negatively impact their lives.

The program will commence on Saturday, May 16, 2009 and continue for five consecutive Saturdays from 9:00AM to 1:00 PM. The program will conclude with a graduation ceremony / luncheon on Saturday, June 20, 2009.

The mission of the C.H.E.E.R.S. Program:

• to create self-worth through positive motivation and objective outlooks for the future of our youth
• provide our youth with the necessary resources to become contributing members
of society
• empower our youth to make positive decisions therefore impacting positive
change upon the community and their lives
• enrich the lives of our youth through exposure to positive community involvement with an emphasis on education

Two-hundred and seventy at risk youth will participate in the program. The program will be geographically located in six areas of our city plagued by high incidents of violence. The program is a combined collaboration between the Philadelphia Police Department, School District of Philadelphia, Behavioral Health Organizations, Community Groups, Private Interest Groups and other city agencies.

C.H.E.E.R.S. PROGRAM CRITERIA:

• youth ages 8-17
• victim of violence
• lost a relative to a violent crime
• truancy
• curfews
• parent / guardian must participate in orientation and workshop
• youth must be present at every workshop
• must reside in one of the identified districts
   -- CHEERS Central / 22nd & 23rd Districts
   -- CHEERS South / 1st & 17th Districts
   -- CHEERS Southwest/12th & 18th Districts
   -- CHEERS Northwest / 14th, 35th & 39th Districts
   -- CHEERS East/24th, 25th, & 26th Districts
   -- CHEERS West / 16th & 19th Districts

Applications can be picked up between the hours of 9:00 AM to 7:00 PM at the following locations. The completed applications must be returned to the Community Relations Officer at the below listed districts.
