

Deputy Commissioner John J. Gaittens
eputy Commissioner Gaittens was appointed to the Philadelphia
Police Department on December 3, 1979. He began his career as
a Patrol Officer in the 23rd District. His other assignments included:
Sergeant in the Automotive Services Division and Lieutenant in
the 22nd District. As a Captain, his command assignments included:
the Labor Relations Unit of the Human Resources Bureau, the 3rd
District, the 35th District, and the S.W.A.T. team. As an Inspector,
he was assigned to command the Northwest Police Division. During
this career, he was the recipient of numerous commendations, awards
and citations.
On November 24, 2004, he was appointed Deputy Commissioner
of Administration and Training. In that position he oversees
the operations of the Training Bureau, Grants Management, Staff
Services Bureau, Judge Advocate and Charging Unit, in addition
to the Administrative Services Bureau.
Born and raised in Philadelphia, his educational accomplishments
include a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration
from Temple University in 2001 and a Master of Science Degree
in Human Resources Management from Holy Family University in
2003. Deputy Gaittens is also a 1999 graduate of the Federal
Bureau of Investigation's National Academy.
He served as a former Vice President of the Command Officers
Association and is currently a member of the Southeastern Pennsylvania
Chiefs of Police Association and the Society for Human Resource
Management.
