Crime & Intelligence Unit
 he
mandate of the Organized Crime/Intelligence Unit is to effectively
monitor the activities of persons and organizations suspected
of engaging in an organized criminal enterprise and of persons
and organizations suspected of conducting or planning violent
acts against the citizens of Philadelphia.
This mandate will be accomplished through the prudent and diligent
gathering of information that is essential to the Department's
duty to protect the public and suppress criminal activity. This
policy has been established to provide for the legitimate needs
of law enforcement while at the same time, maintaining the Constitutional
and statutory parameters, which guarantee each individual the
right to privacy.
The various components of the Organized Crime/Intelligence
Unit are:
Files Section
Consists of biographical information on criminals.
Groups Section
Investigates and identifies organizations and their leaders
that pose a threat to public saftey.
Dignitary Protection / Hostage Negotiation
Unit
Provides proctection for local and visiting dignitaries upon
request while in the city. Unit members are trained in hostage
negotiation techniques.
