t is our mission to serve the citizen's of Philadelphia, prevent
and investigate crimes committed in order to make Philadelphia
a safe place to live and work. In 1999 we investigated 22, 274
reports of crime. These crimes include, Robbery, Aggravated Assault,
Burglary, Theft, Arson, Fraud, Weapons violations, and Drug Offenses.
There are currently 4 Lieutenants, 5 Sergeants, 61 Detectives
and 10 Police Officers assigned to the Unit. We have Detectives
and Police Officers assigned within the unit to provide special
services.
Our geographic boundaries encompasses the 12th, 16th, 18th
and 19th Police Districts as well as the Park, (92nd) District
and the Airport (77th) District.
The Schuylkill River bounds it on the East, West to the Delaware
County Boarder, (Cobbs Creek), Delaware River to the South and
Lower Merion County to the North. This area is 21.77 square
miles.
The population of Southwest Division consists of a wide diversity
of ethnic and religious backgrounds. Data from the 1990 Census
indicates a population of 319,000 residents. The residential
population cannot be easily generalized. Southwest Detective
Division is home to a wide range of socioeconomic levels.
