Chemistry Unit of the Forensic Science Laboratory, commonly
referred to as the "Drug Lab", conducts chemical analysis
of evidence confiscated during criminal investigations conducted
by the Philadelphia Police Department and other agencies.
Street drugs, prescription drugs and chemically engineered
designer drugs are identified and their purity determined. Clandestine
laboratory crime scene processing and any other types of chemical
consultation services are provided to the department. As an
expert witness, the analyst presents his or her findings in
a court of law.
